While Internet marketing has been around for a while, there seems to be a misconception that all you have to do is build a website, put it on the web and watch the money roll in. Dream on, dreamer. If that is what you believe, you will have a better chance by buying a lottery ticket. Internet marketing is a serious business and should be treated as such.

There are four concepts you have to master or at least have a working knowledge to be successful in Internet marketing. First you must learn the language of Internet marketing. Second you must learn how to research your business, and then you need to build a website that fits your marketing plan based on your research. Lastly you need to keep track of your business, to keep it up to date. Let us discuss the four steps.

Learning the Language
Learning the language of the Internet is essential. Every type of business has its own language. Math has a language. If you don’t learn it, you will have little chance of solving problems. Square roots, algebraic notation, sign, co sign and the list goes on. This is true with science, law, accounting and every professional job. Before you can do business successfully, you must learn to talk the talk or you won’t get anywhere.

This would be like starting a business in a foreign country without learning the language. You would have two choices, learn the language or hire an interpreter. The same is true in Internet business, learn the language or hire someone who knows it.

Researching Your Business Online
When you have a working knowledge of Internet language, then you can start to research your prospective business in terms of the Internet. The Internet is the biggest library in the world. Search engines are the librarians. The more info you give the librarian, the better chance you have of finding the book or article you are looking for.

The search engine runs on key words. The more keywords, the more refined the search. Learning the keywords for your business is essential in building your web page. No matter how good your web page is designed if no one finds it, you are out of luck.

Finding keywords is often the most difficult part for newbies. Google Adwords is a free keyword research tool that is very popular. When you get the money to purchase a program, you will find a litany of software to help.

Building a Webpage
Now that you have learned how to talk the talk and researched your business, you have a good start in building your web page. Keywords will get your clients there but if you don’t communicate your product well, sales will be poor.

Designing a web page is an art that just can’t be overlooked. Finger painting is good, but it won’t sell very well. Becomes a webmaster or consult with one. WordPress is a good source to start building. They have a free version that you can practice with and as time passes, you can purchase more products to help.

Tracking Your Business
Lastly, you must be able to track your business. Keywords change and so do products. When business drops off, you need to be on top of it before it dies. Tracking is the part that keeps your business alive.

You can find many packages to help you track your site. However, the beginner should start off with Google Analytics. It is free and will get you well on your way.

When you learn to control these four steps you will be on your way to a successful Internet business.

Social marketing needs to remain social for it to be effective.

Have you been to a party recently?  People who bring something to the table are the toast of the town.  They get surrounded by everyone who wants to learn more.  We might label these people as interesting, amusing or funny.  The point is that they brought value in some form.  This what makes them attractive.

Social advertising is no different.  By bringing value to the table you can become valuable.

Like the talk of the party you want to be interesting, amusing or funny.  No bores allowed, or you might wind up in the corner.  Can’t do too much marketing sitting on the sofa in the other room.

Follow these tips to kill your social marketing buddies with content.

Blog Posts

Do you run a blog?  Tweet your posts, FB share them and share on any social networking site you may be a member of.

Blog frequently.  Create fresh and relevant content.  Focus on your niche to develop a targeted market.

Articles

Article marketing is a prospect driver.  Establish yourself as an expert by penning content based articles. Proceed to share them via social marketing.

Apply the same rules to article marketing as you would to blogging, with one exception.  You can’t lend as much of a personal touch to your work.  Ezines follow certain protocols when it comes to what you can publish.  Follow the rules and continue to kill them with content.

Videos

Videos are a phenomenal branding tool.  Shoot as many videos as you can.  There is no such thing as “too much” when it comes to establishing a physical presence on the web.

Create, don’t compete.

All the smiley faces :) in the world can’t create the feeling of seeing a warm, human smile on video.  You can make a connection more easily with a person than a :)

Sharing Other’s Social Stuff

Sharing is caring.  Brownie points are had by those who promote others as much as they promote themselves.  Everybody likes a giver.

By promoting others your stuff gets promoted.  It’s a simple and clean formula.

Put the afterburners on your social marketing campaign by sticking to these exercises.

The social media phenomenon is only on the rise and the clever business professional is milking the condition to produce leads, stay in touch with clients and market successfully. When getting started with a home business it is central to figure out how to use such media to market your business and pull off the level of success you desire.

Make Friends, not Enemies

Networks such as Facebook are a brilliant supply for new-found leads, as long as you don’t turn into a spam monster. Your goal is to link up with people who have comparable interests, or a stated pursuit in your kind of business, without sending endless sales letters. Is there a technique to do this? Of course!

Consider that your goal is to provide information, not pitch a product. Search for folks who have indicated an interest in what you are promoting, or a related product, and make friends with them. That will get them valuable information from your posts. Make your posts lighthearted, welcoming and bursting with expert advice and useful links. That establishes you as a useful resource.

Your home page can link up to a specific website, or several pages which direct visitors, gently, to things you have found helpful. As long as you don’t make it a hard sell, you can garner numerous leads this way. Remember to keep your material current or you will drop people hastily.

Tweet Deals

Twitter, another social exchange site, is acutely useful for those people who move around a lot. Limited in the length of the messages you can dispatch, you really have to be short and clever. Again, you don’t want to overwhelm your audience with constant sales picthes or they will simply block your username. You want to send short messages about what you are up to, how you accomplish it and where you get your knowledge.

Even if your audience can’t straight away click to a link, they can do so when they are at home at their pc. Keep positive, friendly and casual and you will speedily build a following here as well.

Social media is more or less free of charge advertising. Using this approach when starting a home business is not only what all top marketers are doing right now, it is enjoyable.
